Nwabali leaves Chippa United – Wrong move, Bad timing.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles Goal Keeper has left his South African Club by mutual consent. It seems a move away from the club is imminent.

As of early February 2026, Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially parted ways with South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United, ending a highly successful tenure that saw him rise to prominence.

Here are the key details regarding the Nwabali club saga:

  • Departure from Chippa United: Nwabali left Chippa United in early February 2026 after a mutual agreement, despite having previously signed a contract extension. He expressed a desire for a new, higher-level challenge.
  • Transfer Speculation: Following his exit, Nwabali is at the center of an intense transfer battle. South African giants Kaizer Chiefs are heavily favored to sign him, having tracked him for two seasons. Other rumored destinations include Belgian side Union St Gilloise and Moroccan club Raja Athletic Club.
  • “Clubless” Status: Despite the speculation, Nwabali confirmed around February 6, 2026, that he is currently without a club and has not yet seen concrete offers on his table, despite hearing many rumors.
  • Previous Context: Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). His reputation grew significantly after his stellar performance for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (held in 2024), where he helped Nigeria reach the final.
  • Threats and Security: During the 2023 AFCON, there were reports of online threats against Nwabali from a section of South African fans following Nigeria’s victory over Bafana Bafana in the semi-final. Despite these, he returned to play for Chippa United before his eventual departure in 2026.

Nwabali is currently weighing his options for his next move, seeking a club that offers better prospects for his career growth.
